I have a large dog with a square head. He's a real cutie, but people are scared of him because he's a bully. I like to wear nice collars and bow ties on him because it makes him more approachable when we're out in public, so I can avoid the "keep your mean dog away from me" conversation more than once per public appearance. I chose this. One especially to welcome my husband home from a business trip, and chose red with white polka dots because it reminded me of my grandfather, who wore a similar bow tie for much the same reason (to look dapper when everyone leaves). It's a great choice and it looked really good on him. It broke a little less than a year after purchase, wore it for about 6 months (not constantly). Here are my main complaints: - This is not a collar to put on your dog if you are going to keep him on a leash or tie him in for any length of time. (In my old rental, my yard wasn't fenced in, but my boy loves to go for walks and bird watch, so he had a tie to use under supervision to keep him safe in the yard, the neighbors not too disturb, and do not run outside). The D-ring is not tight, and if the dog presses on it, it can open so far that its tags slip off, which could theoretically result in injury or complete ring failure. The bow tie is attached with a rubber band. I wish I had the option of permanently attaching it to the collar so it fits better and doesn't end up on the back of my neck. Overall, I wish I was made out of more durable materials. I love that the clasp was metal, but that's ultimately what failed with the collar (fortunately while we were home). I really liked the look of this collar but for the money I paid for it I wish I could use it longer. All in all I'm not mad I bought this collar, I'm just not sure I would buy another one from this manufacturer. Back to hunting for a more durable dog butterfly (a suggestion I never thought I would make).
