Never thought I would need them but decided to buy them with my new boots. I usually use regular boot socks but damn I was wrong they are great I hardly sweat them unless I'm doing 10+ miles in a straight line and they are incredibly comfortable. Update 1 year later: So they hold up and I've walked a lot in boots and such this year and learned a lot over the years. They're still great BUT I've now used them instead of full synthetic or smart wool socks and unfortunately they can't keep up when they get wet, they dry faster than cotton but nowhere near as fast as smart socks. They also don't wick away sweat as well as fully synthetic socks. They were really great until I started using the more expensive options, now I can't imagine hiking in them that claim to have no holes or signs of wear and I just incorporated them into my everyday wear. socks and they are comfortable and do great.
