Old car started flashing engine light code. After getting a number at a local "We Read Codes For Free" store, we decided to try the easiest, cheapest, and least time-consuming approach. Checked, double checked and triple checked, the original gas cap was OK, not good. All in all it looked perfect. The suspicion to try a new one turned out to be correct - apparently there was nothing wrong with the 16-year-old factory gas cap and that was the solution. Sometimes you're lucky. Don't forget to unplug the battery cable to reset the light if you don't have a code reader.
