My son is in 3rd grade and loved this backpack. It was the perfect color and design (number of pockets, feel, etc.). However, he has to carry a 2 inch folder to and from school and the backpack is not wide enough for that. He continued to be last in class because he had trouble getting the folder into his pocket. We ended up getting him a slightly larger backpack, 1.5 inches wider I think, and now his portfolio fits right in. This backpack would be great if he was still in second grade and didn't have a huge folder. The backpack also makes a stable impression
