It works to keep them in the car. That's All

I bought this for my medium sized dog hoping to give him a little more room in the back seat. I checked if she could still hurt herself in the event of a crash by hitting the back of the seat in front of her and that's definitely too long. Putting it on the center headrest gives them freedom of movement but still prevents them from jumping out the car window. I highly recommend using it with a front suspension (not just a rope suspension) rather than a collar.
