Review on Panasonic SDR S26 SD Camcorder Blue by Darrell Sharp

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Compact and easy to use.

Let's start with the good. This camera has a fantastic zoom, especially thanks to OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). It's small and light, and the battery life is pretty good. Extra batteries are cheap so buy a pair. In addition to widescreen videos (16x9), it takes acceptable photos. Transferring to a PC is quick and easy, and the files can be accessed as a removable drive if you don't want to use Panasonic's PC VideoCam Suite. Maybe I'm picky, but here are a few things I don't like. about this camera. 1) Video format .MOD. However, you can go to [.] and get a codec pack that allows you to view .MOD videos in most PC programs. Works perfectly. 2) A series of Panasonic video cameras. I tried and deleted it right away. This is a waste of disk space. I just transfer videos to wherever I want via USB and watch them with Windows Media Player. 3) The camera supports SDHC cards up to 32GB, but they must be class 4 or higher. I use Frys 6GB Panasonic cards and they do the job perfectly. 4) Auto Focus. I photographed aircraft (at least two of the last five airworthy P38 Lightnings flying in formation) that were at air shows. I had good focus, but when the plane was about 4000 feet away the focus algorithm lost it and took about 2 seconds to recover. I could only watch the blurry dots until they came into focus again. I would buy an SDR-S26 if I had to do it again. Absolutely, I have no doubt about it - by Revain.
