Review on 🔪 Enhance Your Coffee Experience: Introducing the Baratza Sette 270 Conical Burr Coffee Grinder by Ashley Gauthier

Caution: The DC motor in my device was wired backwards. After repair it works surprisingly well

I ordered this item and received it on time. The specific reason I ordered this model and brand was that the previous grinder (another brand) had died - mainly because the grist kept getting stuck in the chute. This grinder has no "chute" - the grist is poured directly into the bin or washing machine without going through an inclined chute. Now for the fun part: when I unpacked and reassembled the grinder and ground a few times - it wasn't a grind at all - even at the roughest level. I dumped the grains back into the canister and then took a few, put them in the hopper and watched the milling process with a flashlight. The beans bounced around while the grinder hummed, but nothing was ground. I am a former flight electrician and am very familiar with how AC and DC electric motors work. Something made me go and open the block. I noticed that the motor was a DC motor. Well, DC motors will run in one direction when the + and - wires are connected one way, and in the other direction when connected the other way. I went ahead and swapped the red and black wires connected to the DC motor, plugged them back together and tried again: VIOLA! It worked - and it worked amazingly well! Overall, I am delighted with this coffee grinder. It's fast. It is smooth. It's not too big and doesn't take up much space on the table. However, it is noisy. But man, it crunches. It took less than 2 minutes to grind enough coffee to fill a 1lb coffee can. Well, if you run into this problem, here's how you can solve it - you'll know it's not grinding because nothing - nothing at all works. bottom of the mill. NOTHING. If you're only putting in four or five grains, reattach the hopper so you can watch them (make sure it's "open" so you can see the milling chamber) and just watch them bounce , your motor is probably connected. vice versa. To fix this: 1st and most important: DISCONNECT YOUR DEVICE! You'll need a TORX #9 screwdriver - it's really small, but by no means the smallest. Turn the unit upside down (after emptying) and pull on the three rearmost rubber feet. Unscrew the three Torx screws underneath. On the front of the device - top - viewed from below - there are two Torx screws - left and right. Delete them too. Now press on the top of the device (from the top) and gently pry open the bottom of the device near the back at the seam. The back/top should slide/pop out. Be careful. There are two wires for the button that determines that the funnel is locked, connecting that part back to the main body. You should now be able to see the engine clearly. Black and red wires connect to it. Turn them over. Reassemble the device by gently sliding the notched top back against the upper case and pressing the bottom back against the case. Reinstall the screws. Attach the funnel and fill it with some grains. Make sure you have a container to catch the grist. Come on try it. If it slips, the problem is solved. You don't need to know anything about electric motors to get a $400 coffee grinder running, but it can happen to any business by accident. Quality control is a MUST if you have a company that makes something like this. Had this company had a good quality control program, they would have caught this bug before it was out. Just grind three or four grains and make sure the machine actually grinds them. Whilst I'm disappointed I had to make an effort to disassemble this car to fix the engine issue - other than that I'm happy overall. I give the grinder FIVE stars now that it works, but the fact that I had to take it apart to swap out the motor wires is ONE STAR. The addition of speed, grind adjustments, ease of disassembly (as a consumer, you can replace any part simply by contacting the company and ordering what you need), and compact size are all FIVE STARS. It gets THREE stars because it's noisy. The quality of the plastic funnel seems to be inferior - but THREE STARS. The quality of the catcher also seems poor, but I give it FOUR STARS because it doesn't feel as fragile as the bunker. FINAL RATING: 1 - QC issue/reverse connected motor5 - Speed/Ease of use5 - Grind settings5 - Easy disassembly/repair5 - Size/Compact3 - Noise/Quiet4 - Overall Quality OVERALL RATING: 4 out of 5.V/RMec
