Review on V.Step Rechargeable Electric Heated Socks For Men & Women With Remote, 4000MAH Battery Foot Warmers For Hunting Ski Camping Riding Motorcycle by Chris Drury

Great socks, but room for improvement

I am someone who is perpetually cold! I was diagnosed with Reynaud’s a few years ago, so my hands and feet feel like icicles most of the time. I already have heated gloves, so I was excited to add in the heated socks. Right out of the box, I was happy to see the charging cable splits so you can charge both batteries at the same time (I have to charge my gloves separately). I found the manual to be thorough and the setup instructions were very easy. The remote is on a nice little keychain and has batteries already installed. The socks are soft and double lined. They did bunch up around the toes a bit the first time I tried them on. I folded down the top of the sock so I could gently pull up on the inside layer while wiggling my toes, then did the same to the outside layer. Much better. I also noticed the seam along the left sock felt stiff and puckered out, but found that the cord just needed to be pulled up a bit. It took me a few minutes to get get used to feeling the wires and straighten things out, but it didn’t bother me again after that. I was worried about the fit because I’m sort of between sizes. I wear a women’s 8.5 shoe, so I ordered the medium, which is supposed to fit sizes 8.5 -10.5. I’m happy to report they’re a perfect fit! I do have larger calves, but they come up right up to my knees and are ideal for ski boots (see pics). Once you’re done charging the batteries, make sure to place them into the little battery pockets before putting on the socks. If not, you can feel the tugging/tension on the wires, which I imagine isn’t great for them. I pressed the power button on the batteries, then turned the power on via the remote and selected the temperature. You can feel the heat immediately. I started at the lowest setting (#1) before increasing to medium, then high. Medium was nice, but not quite warm enough for me. Keep in mind, the heating area is mostly around your toes, not your entire foot. I think it would be difficult to heat your entire foot without sacrificing comfort (i.e. additional wires). Since my toes are always the coldest anyway, I’m OK with that. I turned it up once more to the highest setting. Ouch! It felt like the top of my toes were burning. Even in the coldest temperatures, I don’t think I could keep it up there for long. Now, for my biggest gripe: the material. I initially read that the material is a cotton blend. However, if you read further down, it states that they have a "soft and cozy cotton liner, making [them] more breathable and moisture wicking”. While cotton may be breathable (perfect for summer), it’s literally the opposite of moisture wicking! It absorbs sweat/moisture and holds it in, leaving you with a wet sock. Winters can be brutal up here in New England. If the battery dies, I’d be left with cold wet socks in freezing/sub freezing temperatures. I wished these were made with a blend of wool or synthetic material so they could actually be breathable and moisture wicking. I’ll definitely be keeping a spare pair of socks with me on the slopes just in case. Having said that, I still really like the socks and I can see myself getting a lot of use out of them.
