You lift your insole in your boot at the top and slide underneath. It raises your toes a bit, which literally pushes your heel back millimeters, but locks your heel in for a perfect fit. I would only buy wide shoes if I was in a shoe store and they would measure my kids feet and show me where they are wide because they would fit, if any, they would be wide instead of narrow. Ask any shoe store clerk how many men come in and say they need a wide leg and you measure their foot and they don't even come close. Wider isn't better. The right fit is best, whatever it is
