Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good power! Great inverter for the money!

Original review 22 Aug 2013: Revain offers some pure sine wave inverters of 300-600W. I chose the Power Bright APS600-12 based on the many excellent (4 and 5 star) reviews from Revain. Quite a few inverters (even other Power Bright models) have received some less than favorable reviews, with many complaining about reliability, performance and fan noise. IMO this Power Bright APS600-12 inverter works as advertised. Even under maximum load, the fans were quiet and never annoying. It is rated for 600W (5A) continuous, 650W (5.4A) for 20 minutes or less. I installed the APS600-12 in my toy dump truck with two 3 foot 6 gauge cables connected to a Marine/RV 24 series battery. Although I knew it was a stretch, I decided to test it out by trying to turn on my little 650w (5.4 amp) coffee maker. Surprisingly, it successfully powered the coffee maker for the 3 or 4 minutes it takes to brew 2 cups of coffee with no issues. The fan kicked on immediately and the heatsinks felt slightly warm, which is to be expected given the load. It also powered my laptop (190W/1.6A) and a 42-inch flat screen TV (300W/2.5A) with no problem. loaded my Fluke VM. At full load (600-650 W), the voltage dropped slightly to 115.8 volts. At first glance I am very satisfied with this inverter. Only time will tell if this device is reliable. For this money, and at the moment I think it's great! Update 29 August 2013: Successfully operating a 6.2A (744W) Shop-Vac Hang-Up Mini Wet/Dry Vac for short periods (less than 5 minutes). Update September 14, 2013: Be careful when overloading this inverter (more than 650W). There doesn't seem to be any shutdown, warning or beep for low AC voltage. When powering a 6.2A load (this inverter is only rated for 5.4A for 20 minutes) this inverter allowed the AC output voltage to drop to 95-98V without tripping, warning or to beep. The inverter shuts down completely instead of allowing such a low output voltage. This low voltage can seriously damage some devices. However, if you make sure that the load does not exceed 600-650W (5.0-5.4A), you should not have this problem. Update 30 April 2014: In a previous update 20 October 2013 (deleted) I commented on issues with my iPhones working while charging when connected to a Power Bright inverter. Power Bright customer support sent me a comment (see below; click comments) suggesting installing a ground wire from a small socket on the back of the unit to the frame of my RV. Well, a few days ago I finally got around to fumigating my caravan and installing a ground wire. I'm happy to report that the ground wire fixed the iPhone charging problem. Now I can easily charge my iPhone, make calls and use apps. Many thanks to the Power Bright customer service team for their help and support. I have changed my previous 3 star rating to 5 stars to reflect this latest update.
