This is an IP phone, which means there is no static, abnormal volume or random touch noise that you experience when using a traditional cordless phone with an ATA. Other benefits of IP phones include instant caller ID display instead of between the first and second ring, instant call initiation after dialing, flashing voicemail light, multiple call handling, multiple account registration, and broadband voice quality support. Other people went back to their awful sounding phones when they only got desk phones, so they had to be wireless. Wireless also means it's easier to deploy when the Cat6 cabling required for desk phones isn't available. The base station can be powered by an AC adapter or 802.3af. Very useful if you want to use your existing UPS-enabled PoE infrastructure to avoid power outages or mount it on the ceiling for better coverage. The phones charge via the docking station, or you can use the micro USB port on the bottom. Opus codec is supported, which is more bandwidth efficient and packet loss resistant than G.722 (like all CAT-iq phones, it transmits G.722 wirelessly, so there will be some quality loss due to G.722 transcoding between Opus and vice versa). The speakerphone works in full duplex mode, which ensures a natural flow of conversations. Finally, it uses standard LSD AAA NiMH batteries instead of a custom NiMH battery or a lithium polymer battery. You no longer have to throw away your phone because your battery is dead and the cost of replacement parts is close to the cost of a brand new device! Pairing the phone to the base station was easy, as was entering my VoIP account details. The voice quality is excellent. No better than Polycom, but half the price of their DECT solution. You must correct the URL of the firmware update server, otherwise clicking the Check Firmware Update button will be useless. There seems to be a DST error if you enable support for DHCP option 2 instead of manual time zone selection. For the rest I have no complaints.
