Review on K40 K 30 Automotive Accessories by Dustin Keller

From a well-known company in the CB antenna market, with a declared product from the USA, I expected a higher quality. That antenna was down until now and I haven't even finished installing it yet. What shouldn't have taken more than ten minutes took over 30 minutes before I had to leave because I needed to get back to my daily chores. The first problem: the whip antenna was hidden in the seam of the plastic case. I was about to stop and call her, but I accidentally lifted the container and the whip fell out. It had to be taped down in a conspicuous place or provided with some sort of flag to draw attention to it. The set screw was then inserted backside forward into the bracket. This means the hex side of the screw was inside and the hex wrench could not be used to unscrew it. It took meticulous work and a lot of tapping on the base to slide it far enough for me to unscrew and twist by hand. With the set screw issue resolved, it was time to insert the whip into the base. . However, since the whip has no tip, I didn't know which end to insert. I read the instructions but there was no mention of which end to insert and which end was "180 radius tip". I found a mark on the antenna and assumed it was the tip of a whip. I really hope so, since the other end of the pin was cut off for tuning. Speaking of tuning, the last issue before I had to stop was tuning the antenna itself. The VSWR was lowest under CB #1. All legal CB radios cannot transmit there. This is normal, it allows you to fine tune the antenna by shortening the stem. However, I have no idea what the whip is made of as my cutter, who used to cut whips, couldn't cut through this material. The cutter almost broke. A hacksaw was needed to cut the whip. I will probably need to replace the blade after I adjust it properly. I won't talk about performance as performance depends on setup and radio. But for now I'm not impressed with the K40.
