Pretty dusty and sometimes there can be dangerous large pieces in it. But I've been using it for about a year now for my Gerbil collection of mixed paper bedding and cardboard, which she likes to shred, and I've had no other issues. When I drop the bag in her tank, I poke around in it a few times to make sure I can grab it if something stings me or is too hard. That's a good price for this lot. I use an entire bag for a 55 gallon tank, usually with the same size paper wash or smaller. She makes a lot of the bedding herself by shredding boxes or rolls of paper that I give her.
