I recently ordered this meat thermometer because I've wanted one for a long time. I usually rely on the color of the food to tell if it's done, but sometimes it's hard to tell. Cooking just got a little easier (and safer) with this little gadget. This meat thermometer comes with instructions and is very easy to use. It turns on automatically when the metal thermometer extension detaches from the electronic pen. It also turns off automatically when the extender is returned to its original position. I assume I don't have to change the batteries often. It also came with the battery already in and an extra battery which was nice. One nice thing about the thermometer is that it came pre-calibrated so I didn't have to fiddle with it. I tested it to make sure it was accurate just to be sure and it was. The guidance pack includes test instructions to ensure the temperature reading is correct and instructions for recalibration if necessary. Although the thermometer is fairly easy to use, I would recommend new users to read the instructions before using it to eat. . To measure food temperature, you need to hold the button for a few seconds while the metal stick is in the meat to get an accurate reading. Depending on the backlight, the temperature (which may be in F or C) can be difficult to read, but there's a backlight button that can help. The picture also shows a metal rod protruding only slightly from the electronics case, but the instructions state that the metal rod should face away from the case so it doesn't melt. Last but not least, the thermometer comes with a note with the correct final temperature for all types of meat, which is practical. The thermometer also has a magnet inside so I can easily attach both to my fridge (which is right next to my oven) to have them on hand whenever I need them. All in all I think this will be a handy tool to use for a while.
