Purchased KEF R3 to replace Dali Opticon 2, Yamaxa RN-602 amplifier. After connecting the R3, as I already read a review about the KEF Q350 - "as if a blanket was thrown over the acoustics" - there are no high ones. Constantly twisted treble tone block to the maximum and a feeling of regret for the money spent. The first step - replacing the RF cable with a silver-plated copper cable - did not help much. The next step was to replace the amplifier with a Primare I15 Prisma, it got better in treble, the bass changed significantly - it became faster, but the sound was still not ideal for me. And then at one fine moment I understand that the sound has changed and become solid, high frequencies appeared, volume, the stage expanded, where you can understand the position of the instruments during recording. I was in puppy delight. Empirically, it turned out that it is necessary to warm up the acoustics for at least 100 hours, which the manufacturer does not mention anywhere. The experiment was confirmed once more by replacing R3 white with R3 black lacquer. After all the experiments, one QED X-Tube XT400 cable remained, without the use of regular jumpers, with a crystal top and a fairly voluminous bass. A nuance about vibration decoupling - they stood on a stand with spikes + standard rubber gaskets on the body. There were plastic plates between the spikes and the cabinet to keep the furniture. I bought metal supports for spikes and from below on them, pasted felt. Where did so much bass come from - it's not clear . The sound of floor speakers. About holography - you should not arrange this acoustics according to the principle of a triangle, where the listener is on one of the peaks. The directivity of the speakers is quite wide and they can be placed almost parallel to each other, thus you can achieve a very wide stage and the effect of the presence of musicians. Design - cry Yaroslavna, 3 points out of 5. How charming the R 300, R500 series looks, the R3 looks just as awful. At least some kind of aluminum ring around the speakers, it just asks, and this terrible piano lacquer. But you can forgive everything for the sound .
