I bought this to organize my son's room. This shelf is pretty strong. I have 4 shelves high and 3 wide. I wouldn't put anything heavy on it just because it's a tipping hazard, and I do that with all shelves. But it is strong enough and easy to assemble. I didn't even have to use the little hammer that comes with the kit. I think I assembled it in 10 minutes or so. Very good product. I'm thinking of buying more for my other kids rooms if they want it. My daughter says she would prefer them in a different color. This would be my 8 year old's only complaint about the lack of color choices. But this is a very good buy.
