LOVE LOVE LOVE! I've wanted to roast my own coffee beans for so long and I'm over the moon to find this simple and affordable ceramic roaster. Rating: * Pros: Incredibly cheap! No aluminum or plastic! Simple design! Ideal for small batches! (Currently, I'm the only coffee drinker in my family, so I'll never be able to finish my 1kg packs of store-bought roasted beans before their 1-week peak (and the flavor is starting to fade) .which means I'm constantly throwing away beans (I compost in the bins around town) thus spending money and feeling guilty. This roaster allows me to allocate the perfect amount of beans for my use during their best nutrition/quality period roast, without waste.)*Meh : There was no information on use or care. For example, it would be nice if they warned you that if you shake the fire bowl over the fire, hot grains can fly out of the handle and burn your hand etc. Should it be washed with soap or soap residue can affect the taste of the beans, should it just be rinsed with water instead? Does it need to be preheated before adding green beans or not? * Disadvantages: none! (Here are mixed comments from others about the handle. The first time I played it safe and wrapped it in a small towel just to be safe, but shortly after removing the grill from the heat I touched the leather handle and it was warm, but not uncomfortable. I think if it were longer (as some people have requested) it would become uncomfortable on the wrist as most of the weight would be further away.) The second time I used the brazier, I held it with mine bare hands. Hands, and temperature wasn't an issue - when my next finger started getting too warm, that hand/arm needed a breather anyway, so I switched to the other side. BUT every once in a while, hot beans would fly out of the handle and hit me - and it was an uncomfortable burn - and land on the floor. So from now on I'll be holding on with gloves or a towel to block the handle hole.) Image: I bought these green coffee beans a few months ago - life has got me hooked and indecisive on which roaster to buy (this one is because I didn't know such a brazier existed) -- but I think it turned out good! (Although a bit darker than intended, this was my first attempt at roasting green coffee beans and I learned my lesson!) Yahoo! Now I'm a DIY coffee roaster for life!
