As for complaints about tolerances and vise movement, it's true - this isn't a $600 professional vise. The vise is made in China and has high tolerances, but I think with a few simple modifications you will have a quality product that you can use for relatively accurate work on a drill press. Harbor Freight Stores have similar vises, but I went with this one because it looked more massive. The two adjustment knobs have sockets with set screws where they contact the vise body. It would be advisable to put a thin washer between the set screw and the body - this will make the vise more precise and smooth. You can also put another one behind the plate. The grease that the vise comes with is rubbish - it's only used because it prevents corrosion during storage/shipping. Clean the vise with oil and use a good lithium grease or something else to make it move smoothly. Adjust the guide rail bolts and re-grease the rails. I don't think they can break. In any case, you shouldn't twist them too much. If you need 0.001 inch accuracy, get a professional vise. For the rest of us who don't spend $600 on a hobby, that's fine. For me it's money. well invested.
