To test this solar panel I used a 5w panel to charge an external battery which I use to charge my cellphone. The solar battery is in the south. When I look at the window all day I charge the battery and in the evening I charge the phone from the battery. It's been cloudy and raining for 5 days now and the battery is very low, but I get enough sun each day to fully charge my phone. I use my phone as usual to read the news, check email, listen to music etc (I know normal is different for everyone) so I'm sure if there was a prolonged blackout (e.g. in the PR right now! ) This panel keeps my phone well charged. On a sunny day, it can charge my 3000mAh external battery by about 1400 from 0 to 100%. One disadvantage: the connection on the back of the panel is not waterproof. Using this outdoors in a dusty, wet, or salty environment is sure to be a problem. If this device had a built-in 1m USB cable, that leaky connection could be hidden in a backpack, in front of a window, or otherwise removed from the elements.
