The problem is that if your mounting plate is meant to be mounted horizontally above the junction box (as is the case with many old junction boxes), the secondary plate will also be mounted horizontally above it - since you obviously want your fixture to be level - in this one In this case, you cannot spring the fastening screws sufficiently because they are in contact with the fastening plate. In this case, the screws protrude too far and since the decorative nuts are only open on one side, you cannot tighten them enough to make the lamp sit flush with the wall. All of this is probably unimaginable unless you look at the details, but suffice it to say - depending on your junction box, it may not fit the wall exactly and you'll have to find another solution. Open ended nuts can be used and then you can paint them black. It won't look as pretty, but it will do.
