Not even remotely waterproof I call full BS on this title

This is a 'good' winch and reasonable for $$ but nowhere near 'waterproof' as the description says. I've had it for a year now and yesterday when I needed it most it stopped working. I was able to click the solenoids here, but I didn't move the winch. There was voltage on the wires so I knew the solenoids were working properly. Engine removed and disassembled - you can see that there is water in it. This is not at all surprising as there are no actual seals to retain water - not around the end of the motor case, not even the wires that run through the case. The brushes were so badly rusted that the springs could no longer hold them on the anchor. I cleaned everything up and hope for the best. I probably wouldn't buy again and would instead spend the extra price on a warning. When you need it, you need it, and expecting you to only use it to find out it's DOA sucks.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • has flaws
