This Ergo Control circular knife claims to eliminate hand fatigue with its "soft grip" - apparently a copyrighted term. It actually causes hand fatigue and more if you have hand arthritis. You must use constant, sufficient force while holding the ergonomic handle to raise the guard. I tried removing the blade guard as I can't hold this cutter as it was designed. I didn't take it out, but it folds back far enough that I don't have to keep squeezing the handle. Fiskars usually has well thought out products. You've missed a mark on this one.
