The smell is MUCH stronger than other buffalo (waxed) leather I've bought. I bought a buffalo leather lined backpack as well as a buffalo lined glasses case and bought this to house and hold all the cables and dongles needed for the new Macbooks that only have USB-C ports. The smell made my backpack stink! Imagine the bad smell if this material was used for a belt. All other buffalo leather products have a pleasant smell of ordinary leather. It's not disgusting! I was hoping that after a few weeks of airing the smell would go away but then I lost track of time and it's passed the 30 day mark and I couldn't return it. I've had it for several months now and it still stinks. I had to move it out of my (large) home office as it stank everywhere. Another problem is that the paint spills onto everything else in your backpack. I had a beautifully bound notebook with a marker on the ribbon and the cover is now stained with the paint of the case. Looks kinda clumsy. Shame as it is beautiful and the various compartments and cable holders are well thought out and work well. about twice the size of the zippered pouch it replaced. I'd be happy with the size if it wasn't for the bad smell and color that fades from everything else.
