Review on ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ 7.1-Inch Dark Stained Zassenhaus Berlin Pepper Grinder Mill by Brian Olson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Overall quality is not impressive but grinds very well

Let me start by saying that for the price this grinder should come in a box or some form of packaging that offers better protection than a single ply thin blister diaper bag. he arrived. Amazon of course packed it in way oversized bubble wrap so you could expect some dents on the case or lid like mine (smaller). First impressions are that it grinds really well throughout the range. . The coarsest is damn rough and the finest is almost powdered (it depends on the calluses to some extent) and is very smooth and easy to use. The build quality here is only mediocre. The union nut is beautifully chrome-plated. My stainless steel hex bar had pretty bad threads, so the union nut wasn't easy to screw in and felt grainy. So being the handy guy, I cleaned out the threads with a die (6mm x 1.0 for anyone wondering) and touched them up on the grinder and wire wheel. It's acceptable now, but it was a waste of twenty minutes, that shouldn't have been necessary. The way the wand's plastic bushing is pushed into the wood nozzle doesn't inspire confidence over time, but the grinder grinds with very little effort, so it might be ok. The wood finish is subtle and not very rich, but even. .Whatever the clear coat is, it's not very waterproof, especially at the bottom of the bean. My biggest concern was the rough texture on the inside (which is painted btw) because I either used blunt tools or turned too fast in the manufacturing process, not sure how they make them. As I poured out a dozen test grains, I noticed a few wood shavings. Looking into the camera, there are several spots where a grossly damaged tree sticks out. I stuck a needle file in and broke them - they came off with no effort so if not removed they will likely come out with the pepper eventually. This is a big mistake for a food product that doesn't match the price. Zassenhaus, contact your factory and ask there. Actually everything ok, it's just a pepper mill, but for the price and "German" I expected more. The quality of the classic Peugeot and the American Fletcher's Mill is slightly better for the same price. However, I like the grind setting better on this one, so it's a keeper and I hope it ages well.
