I made a solid oak cabinet using the Craig joining technique that had about 130 pocket holes. Incidentally, this was my first experience with corks and a kreg. The forks worked great, but I didn't realize at first that the thick end of the fork had to be trimmed down a bit to fit. Since the same end cap is used for the entire thickness of the wood, it made sense from my point of view. My bandsaw quickly cut about 1/4 inch off each of the plugs and they worked very well. It would be nice if you could choose the direction of the fibers, but there is no such option.
