I bought one for me and my mom because we are tired of the constant ash sticking to our windows. In that sense it works; This will make the cars much cleaner. It's all metal, so there's no problem with it melting like cheaper plastic. It is not "self-extinguishing" as stated on the packaging. I don't really care, but he says he can and he can't. I poured some water in it and that fixed the problem. The lid stays in place but is very delicate (if you don't twist it enough or too much it will fall off). Comes with a cleaning brush. Overall it's decent and not very expensive, but it would be better if it had a screw at the top and didn't require water to extinguish cigarettes.
