I use this wall barrier to keep my 91 year old mother who has severe dementia from going into the living room at night as it is dark and usually colder than her Bedroom. I installed it across from the bathroom down the hall so she can go into the bathroom at night instead of leaving. I've been thinking about getting a wooden type that will keep kids and dogs out of the area but mom sees the barrier and that's enough. She is too old to walk under him without falling. And for her it's like a signal to go back to bed. I put it on at night and take it off in the morning. It can't even be seen from the living room further down the hallway, as it's installed behind the load-bearing parts of the hallway walls on each side. It's easy, quick, and a lot cheaper than a wooden harmonica.
