Review on Schlage F170ACC716LH Accent Standard Bronze by Tony Cole

I love Schlage's Accent line of door hardware. I've had them in one form or another in all my homes for the last 15 years. Mannequin, passage, key, privacy. Even universal bolts. I had them all! They are sophisticated and WORK flawlessly. However, the finish should ONLY be used indoors! It seems like every Schlage paint job just doesn't stand up to the weather. In my first home we installed satin nickel finishes on 6 sets of French doors leading onto a pool deck that needed replacing every 2 years. The "Lifetime Finish" warranty after the 2nd warranty replacement was more hassle than it was worth. I was told to wax my hands often. I am sorry. 12 handles and 6 latches on just one side of the house? For the next house we chose aged bronze. They actually underperformed, and the ones that got ANY direct sunlight lasted less than 1 year. In the end I removed the top coat and painted them with Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze Universal. In fact there has been NO sign of degradation on the paint for 2 years. Yes, now I'm unlikely to get warranty service BUT in 15 years I've never had a mechanical failure! I still have them inside the house and I like them a lot. I just really wish Schlage would focus on the outdoor durability of their painted finish.
