This product is fantastic! The paints that come with the kit are limited in color but serve their intended purpose. I'm not a big artist but I think the magnets came out well. I haven't thought about it, but I agree Sharpie markers would work better for design/aesthetic reasons. I could try that! The magnets came with a sticky backing, they were easy to stick on and they were the perfect size for the magnets; all the magnets on the fridge - none fell off due to poor adhesion to the magnet. I would definitely recommend this set - I loved it and my sons (8 and 11) loved it too!
