Review on ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ Macally 2.4G Wireless Mouse: Ergonomic, Smooth Scroll Wheel for Laptop/Desktop Windows Mac PC Notebook - USB Receiver Included by Benjie Swindler

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Doesn't work as well as my old Apple wireless mouse.

My Apple wireless mouse has stopped working reliably (which means it works intermittently with fresh batteries, but not for long) so I needed another one, but an Apple replacement is too expensive. It just arrived and seems to be doing what I want on first try. It is practical. The two buttons work the same as touching parts of the surface of an Apple mouse, and most importantly, I can use the scroll wheel on a Macally mouse (by holding down the Ctrl key) to zoom in and out, just like using my finger move up and down on a mouse that Apple did. Of course, I had to enable this feature in System Preferences/Accessibility, but it was no different. However, I can't scroll it sideways like I can with an Apple mouse, and scrolling with the scroll wheel is jerky: it seems to either jump pixel by pixel in small jumps or suddenly fly to the end. Window. (That's why I took a star off my original rating.) Tracking is very different from my old Apple mouse, whether wireless or a really old wired one (this one still works), both of which track much faster than Macally. Mouse to set tracking speed. To switch between mice, I have to go into system settings and reset the speed; Instead, I've chosen a compromise speed that's too slow for one and too fast for the other. One possible annoyance is that when my iMac (running macOS High Sierra) started up, a window popped up saying I had to press a specific key on the keyboard for it to be recognized. The required key wasn't clear and didn't seem to do anything. I have a wired keyboard and haven't had any problems with it, but I hope I don't see this window often. I plugged the dongle (1cm square) into the USB hub port about 4ft from the computer and mouse and it seems to be working. I don't know what will happen if I get a new iMac with different ports. The Apple mouse does not require a dongle. Those two features - key and wake up window - are another reason why I don't give it 5 stars.
