Review on Fujitsu ScanSnap Versatile Enabled Document by John Swain

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best scanner I've ever owned

I've had Visioneer, Canon, Epsom and Brother scanners over the years. I've had my eye on the Fujitsu Scansnap for years because of the rave reviews. I finally got it - and I regret not having done it years ago! The Fujitsu Scansnap ix1600 is an amazing device. I've scanned 100 year old historic property documents - odd size, wrinkled, varying lengths and widths, terrible quality originals (faded, smudged, etc.). Result? Simple, lightning fast and scans are easier to read than originals! My setup is an iMac on Catalina connected with the included Hi-Speed USB cable. Scanning can be started either from the scanner itself (via the control panel) or from a Mac. Both methods work without problems. I also tested WiFi scanning, which works well too. It might have been related to a specific document, but it seemed to me that the Wi-Fi scan took a bit longer than a wired connection at the end of the scan, so I left it wired. The only possible area for improvement is the post-scan output. . When scanning large documents (e.g. up to 50 pages or so), the papers do not align properly in the output tray. If you're not careful, the scanned pages of a document can be misaligned and placed in the wrong order. This isn't a problem for me as I destroy everything immediately after scanning, but it can be annoying to save the originals afterwards. I assume it could be a scanner for life. This is significantly more expensive than the regular mid-market input/laser versions of the MFC. I think it's more than worth it! Highly recommended!

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • It's ok

Very easy to setup and use, fast ultra clear monochrome and color scans.
