I have purchased several umbrella/flash light stands in the past and find them useful not only for setting up flash, umbrella and softbox combos but also for storing maps, flags and other light modifiers . This Phottix Varos is absolutely the *BEST* variant of the genre - even better than the Manfrotto parts (which are also all metal) I've ever used. What I love about the Manfrotto part (http://amzn.to/2fmzDkI) is the "knobs" used, which are also metal and have more leverage. However, Phottix has a locking pin that gives you confidence when putting an expensive flash and receiver on the stand. I've been shooting longer than I care to admit and only experienced a few "events" that shouldn't have happened due to equipment failure. The quality of my grip/lighting gear is inferior to my camera and lenses: everything in my shots is part of a critical supply chain. Purchasing lower quality products will result in wasted time, lost reputation, lost equipment (due to an accident) or lost photo opportunity. I love the design, feel, utility and weight of this product and will keep it for myself. now in my base kit.
