I used to keep my phone in an ugly case that had metal embedded in it and I could just clip it to an old Techmates magnetic mount that was attached to my car vent. However, I prefer to shop at Whole Foods with Apple Pay and a basic discount that requires you to show your phone to scan a QR code. During a pandemic, I don't want to constantly sanitize my phone. This car mount saved the day! I can put my phone in a sandwich bag and easily use my phone (without the mic I think) through the plastic bag. Whole Foods can scan my codes, and Apple Pay, text messages, etc. all work great through a plastic bag. But my phone holder doesn't work. So if I need my phone to navigate (my old car doesn't have car play) I need to sanitize my phone or just listen to the sound. This car mount is very different from my simple magnetic mount. Opens and closes on the phone. At first it did so by barely touching it, but now everything is built up where I need it and I can pop the phone's screen through the plastic if needed. I'm just not used to fancy gimmicks, I guess. I noticed my phone got hot but I can just unplug the charger. I know he needs a load, he can get it. I can't tell how fast it actually charges as my phone was already charged. It sticks out MUCH more than my old plain disc holder. It's easier to set up, but my drive mount worked great. This one required a bit of fiddling to position it so that my hand wouldn't touch it when I turned the steering wheel. Also, part of the screen is blocked by the steering wheel because it's protruding so far out of my VW's air vent. However, it's good enough to see most of it. You can see in the photos. Also, the hole you slide onto the vent is very narrow. I couldn't attach it to the center fin because it never would. I had to attach it to a smaller fin which was still very tight but fit. The standing part helps it stay upright but doesn't sit in my vents as shown in the description. He rests on the external environment, which helps him to be supported. As others have said, it wobbles but hasn't fallen out of the vent. You should probably check once a week. Even my old techie mount fell out once. Although we live on a dirt road with a lot of bumps. It wasn't anything too important. I think it's because it's farther from the dash and has a ball joint. I'm happy with that.
