I bought this receiver to replace my old Pioneer home theater receiver which didn't support resolutions above 1080p. I upgraded to a 4K projector but kept my 5 Jamo speakers. THE GOOD: • INCREDIBLE sound. Everything sounds a lot cleaner and clearer on the same speakers than on my old Pioneer, which I used to think was pretty good. • The setup menu is easy to navigate. It's very easy to switch between different surround processing methods. • I was ready to buy a HEOS speaker to bring sound to my bedroom or patio. Fortunately, this isn't necessary as you can connect additional Bluetooth speakers and even turn them on remotely. If you have a big house the range might be too small but for me it was perfect. There's a slight delay (as you'd expect with Bluetooth), so you'll need to keep the Bluetooth speaker out of earshot of those who are physically connected. Also, you cannot connect to a Bluetooth speaker and an audio source at the same time. BAD: • Built-in speaker calibration utility. not good. He repeatedly misreported the dynamics as being out of phase. He turned on the surround speakers and dropped my center channel so much that dialogue was completely inaudible in some scenes in the movie. I've heard from friends that this has happened to other recent Denon models too, so it's not just me! I would still use a setting that allows the receiver to compensate for the speakers' frequency response, but then override the individual channel volume settings. • The remote control is big, clunky and not very useful. Cannot turn on/off the projector like my old Pioneer remote. I haven't got CEC working with any of my devices yet, but it can't be the receiver's fault. • Internet radio functionality is impossible even with a crappy smartphone app and relatively useless. • Oddly enough, she also appears. online as an Apple Homekit device that can be paired but has no real functionality. • While there are analog video inputs, this particular model lacks a digitizer so you can't play any of them over HDMI, meaning they're pretty much useless. You need a third party device to connect them with HDMI. • As mentioned earlier, this model had a bug that caused 4k/120Hz devices to not work properly. I don't have it so I can't verify if it was fixed in mine or not. Overall I'm very happy with this receiver and think it's a good upgrade for my Pioneer. There are a few kinks, but no barriers, and I'll eventually find workarounds for most of them. In general it is recommended.
