Bought this for a hike on the Colorado Trail. I'm a bit of a gram freak, but this thing will give you at least 10 days of full charge from zero charge on the iPhone 5. I'm about to kill my phone and recharge it from 0 so I can get away with feedback on how many times it will recharge from 0. I will update in a few weeks once the Anker Astro E7 power bank runs out. I use my iPhone 5 for my GPS, music, maps, phone, travel guide and camera so I can justify the extra weight of an external battery. I wrote down the weight here: The device itself (Anker Astro E7 External Battery) weighs 481g or 17oz (1lb, 1oz). The Anker charger weighs 46 g or 1.625 oz. The Anker charging cable weighs 17 g or 0.625 oz. The 1 m Apple "Lighting" charging cable weighs 17 g or 0.625 oz. The charging kit weighs 568 g or 1 lb 4 oz or 20 oz. Anker's charger works to charge an iPhone 5, so you can leave the Apple charger out of your backpack. There is a small LED on the external battery that can be used as an emergency light. But I wouldn't give up my headlights. There are 3 USB sockets on the charger so you can also charge a friend's phone if you are generous with your amps. In general, I would recommend this charger if you are going to be out of town for any length of time. I had 10-14 days between dorm nights, so I guess it would be a great addition to the package. Recharging the battery with a dedicated 10W charger takes 12-16 hours. I would suggest getting a wall charger rather than relying on what you have at home. The case is slippery and gets dirty fairly easily, but when you're driving 15 miles a day and haven't showered in a week, stains aren't at the top of the worry pyramid. I've attached a couple of pictures showing the blue charging lights, the LED, and the size of the battery. Update: I got 9.69 full charges for the iPhone 5 from a full charge of the Anker Astro E7 external battery. I say 0.69 because my daughter's iPhone 5 was at 31% when she plugged it in one night. I connected it at 6:30 and from 19: 00 o'clock the battery flashes in the range from 75 to 100%. so that tells me I travel 9 days and then spend the night in a hostel or hotel, take day zero, I can charge the battery and travel another 9 days and further discharge the battery to 0. Realistically, if you put your phone in airplane mode, you're not going to drain it to zero in a day. Probably not even 3 days. But this is another story. Yes, I would recommend this battery.
