I'm a real coffee drinker and I roast my own coffee. I have been using the "best" drip machine for several years. French roasting is one of the best ways to make excellent coffee, but standard French presses tend to leave out a little ground coffee in the coffee. This design solves that problem and delivers excellent results. I see no reason to use additional paper filters as I don't get sand in my coffee - the double mesh system works very well. Maybe that will be less with a cheap coffee grinder. I combined this with a kettle that can be set to 200 degrees. This makes the whole process almost as easy as automatic drip irrigation. If you have a scale, you can use it to weigh the water you're pouring, making things even easier. Double-walled stainless steel keeps coffee hot for over an hour. for the screen assembly which I believe will last 5-10 years and cost $20 to replace. Some reviewers complain that the design leaves several ounces of coffee in the form of waste. While this is true, you can "pump" the filter assembly a few times during the pour to get the most out of that last bit. If the coffee has sat unused for a while it will be "over-extracted" coffee as it is coffee that has been sitting in the thicket, but I like it.
