Does exactly what it takes.

Today everyone knows that you need an offsite backup at a remote location to ensure you don't lose your information if you lose your computer. I learned this lesson the hard way. After my laptop motherboard died, I figured I'd have to pay Best Buy $150 to get the information off the hard drive. After some thorough research on YouTube and Google, I found that I can remove the hard drive and pop it into this thing to deactivate my information and turn my hard drive into an external drive/backup. YAY! Good: Easy to use, does what it's supposed to. It plugs in easily and is recognized as an external drive, so you don't need to install any hardware to use it. The Bad: It doesn't cool your hard drive while it's in use. This is important because hard drives can overheat. I actually have a bag of frozen peas that I wrap in a towel and place on top when I use them. This will prevent the drive from overheating. I also don't use it for anything other than an external drive (booting and organizing backups), so it's plugged in for an hour max. Skinny: Turned my broken laptop's hard drive into an external drive. I keep it in a fireproof safe so I don't have to worry about losing any information. VERY COMFORTABLE. Added bonus. USB is used all over the world, so you can take your data with you anywhere in the world without worrying about adapting to a different power source.
