This PLS 5R is a 5-point laser. My other laser is the Bosch GLL 3-80 which projects lines onto a plane but is almost double the price. PLS 5R is good for things like framing and electrical, while GLL 3-80 with raised flats is better for tiling and painting. The self-leveling pendulum feature is very handy, both will self-level as long as you are within +/- 4 degrees. This is a must have for any laser level. Both use AA alkaline batteries. Since I usually store the laser for a long time, I don't have to wait for it to be charged (just put in new batteries and go). and not just points. But it depends on what you're building (I do a lot of interior decorating now). PLS 6R also projects lines. I would recommend it if you have about $100 more to spend.
