People say it is very thin and it is true that it can be cut with scissors. If you try, maybe 30 minutes. It's in a plastic case, but it has metal chords. Some things I've used it for; 1. We tied our purse to a beach post while swimming so people couldn't steal our purse2. During the crossing, they tied backpacks to a pole. Several people's backpacks disappeared that day, but not us!3. We locked our stuff on our hotel desk (including backpack zips) while we were away from our hotel. It's very compact and the wire is about the thickness of a small straw (full of metal) but I feel like it's enough of a deterrent to tell people to get the hell out.
