Review on SilverStone FP32B Aluminum 3 5 Inch Drive by Jorge Toussaint

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Adds separate USB ports (no hub) with audio and FireWire.

FP32 (I think B stands for black) is solidly constructed of aluminum. It has four separate cables, one for each USB port, and is not a USB hub, which is what I wanted. None There are two connectors on the audio cable, one for Azalia and one for AC97.My P8H67-V mobile device can use both but I connected AC97 as I will only be using stereo headphones on the front connector.Mobo doesn't have a 1394 plug so I'm using it didn't fit. The block fit "tight" in the drive bay of my Antec case and it took quite a bit of pressure to install. The 4 screws provided are too big and I have no idea why they were included to make sure that you have 4 standard hard disk mounting screws to hand to mount this device in a 3.5" drive cage. The threads perfectly match the standard hard disk mounting screws. Before the inst allation I have unplugged each USB cable. to make sure I didn't burn anything if I connected all the wires correctly. rbd guide to see where the +5 volt and ground pins are. The red wires are +5 volts and the black wires are ground on each USB port. The audio jacks have a blocked pin, so they can only be installed properly if the audio jack on the motherboard does not have a pin to connect properly. I adjusted the wiring on the AC97 connector anyway, just to make sure it's correct. I have 4 USB 2 ports, a mic in and an audio out on the front panel which is just great. Tested green audio output with headphones and it works great. The microphone hasn't been tested yet, but I'm sure it will work fine. Be sure to purchase a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter if your case does not have a 3.5" front bezel. Very happy with my purchase.

  • Ports: USB x 4; FireWire IEEE 1394x1; Audio x 1 (Azalia compatible); Microphone x 1 (Azalia
Cons
