I was able to transfer many files (photos, videos, pdfs, word docs) both ways through the files application. I didn't have a 256GB card to test, but it's reassuring that so much capacity is supported. Based on the fast transfer of a file from the card to the iPad and vice versa, the speed exceeds 15MB/s in each direction. Contrary to the iOS13 instructions, I could not find an "Import" button in the Photos app, but I could use the Files app instead. The device did not heat up after 10 minutes or when used with the charging cable connected. Basically I am very satisfied with the price.
