I've used 4 of these drives and one has failed but that may have been my fault. I suggest formatting the drive first and exiting the project and closing the session when done. And make sure you don't turn off your computer until the process is complete. I used disks from random places in the stack. I've also used several different laptops. Be careful when opening the packaging. There is no spindle in the middle. I opened them up on my bed and they weren't all getting enough sleep as someone else mentioned. I carefully placed them on the old spindle I had before. Also, they are quite thin, so handle them carefully. Or just spend more money and get a brand you trust. I don't know if any brand has a spindle inside. I think next time I'll just order Memorex or a brand I know. I no longer use DVDs. I mostly store my backups on an external hard drive, but in some cases I stick to the old school and use DVDs.
