Great for a first grader!
I bought this for my son who is 6 1/2 and almost finished kindergarten. He loves it, it seems sturdy (we've only had it about a month and it still looks brand new) and it has his lunch, snacks and usually space for his water bottle too. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily it holds everything.
