Review on 🔌 Lenovo Thinkpad Ultra Dock USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI, Display Port 40A80045US by Luis Mercado

Lenovo offers two different USB docking stations. I chose this one as it seemed to offer the most flexibility. I bought it to add two monitors + to a brand new X1 Carbon. It was not possible for me to get the second monitor to work with the standard HDMI output. In a nutshell. Apparently the X1 had an issue on the motherboard where the HDMI function didn't work (neither the physical port nor the "software port" of the docking station worked) which Lenovo took care of, no issues (I'm impressed by them for two reasons: a) having Support X1 on a phone line in Atlanta and b) being able to use the local office warehouse for delivery service seems new and only available in a few cities but thankfully. Austin was one of them). When I got the X1 (sexy beast) back, I found that the HDMI out on one of the monitors wasn't working. Sigh. I found a cable that allowed me to use a different monitor connection and voila! I now have dual display set up. Nothing to blame for the docking station, of course. It worked and still works great. Lesson learned: Multiple errors are possible, and it's important to carefully isolate, test, and prove what's actually happening. (I had a third monitor with a full HDMI output that I used to test the X1 - it worked fine on my Dell workstation, but not the X1.)
