I forgot my small 3 cup Bialetti pot on the stove the other day. For example for an hour. In addition to making my whole house stink, I melted the rubber gasket to oblivion. I French pressed it for a few days until these awesome little silicone pads arrived. You know how the Bialetti instructions say to use low heat to avoid damaging the seal? Well, you don't have to worry about that if your gasket is made of silicone! Plus, cleaning is easier because abrasives don't stick to silicone like rubber does. I used to have to scrape them off with my fingernail, but now it just rinses off. The only difference I see is that the silicone gasket is slightly narrower, maybe a few millimeters. It holds a small perforated plate in place, and while it fits very snugly against the rubber pad, it barely moves with the silicone pad. But that doesn't seem to affect performance at all. Even if your rubber seal is working fine, I would recommend replacing it with a silicone seal so you don't have to worry about it sticking to the coffee grounds. Hold back odors or melt on you.
