I use V-Alpha for hiking, going to the beach etc. As casual shoes they are good but that's what I use V-Trek for. The V-Alpha has a slightly less aggressive profile and is slightly thinner overall than the other FiveFinger models, so I wouldn't recommend them as a first pair unless you're already used to wearing minimal shoes. I like them for "off-road" use. because they don't have laces to snag on the ground (an elastic loop is used instead) and while they're not waterproof, they dry quickly (due to the thin material). They are also very light so they are easy to fold up and put in a backpack and very easy to clean. I'm giving it three stars because of the size. I usually wear a 9.5/10 and this size fits other Vibram models, but for V-Alpha you should go up a size. 9.5/10 is too low for me, I should have chosen 10/10.5 instead. The narrow size puts a strain on my feet when walking and makes them uncomfortable for continuous trekking with no breaks.
