Need a strong, stable and well-weighted metal ruler? Buy Alucolor! I have used another well known brand for many years but never liked how flimsy it was. Bought and overhauled my first Alumicolor line. Since then I've bought most of the sizes I normally use (12"/18"/36") and threw all the inferior gauges out of my house. I suggest you do the same - it's invigorating.
