I asked how good they are at blackout and got some sly replies that they are sunglasses and they black out because sunglasses do. Well, I had "sunglasses" against that filtering sun, but they didn't darken anything. Guess what those "sunglasses" are doing? They filter easily; they don't darken. In the attached photo, these glasses are on the left, my old sunglasses (no readers) on the right, in a moderately lit room at night. As you can see, they don't darken much compared to the old ones. They are even less effective when working in bright light. I needed them to make my laptop's screen even darker, in addition to how dark the monitor itself could be, so I could keep using the laptop when I had a headache. They don't cut. Also, the view is distorted. As I read, I noticed my eyes moving from left to right and the words were slightly distorted. Doesn't really help when trying to deal with a headache.
