I've tried the S, M, LG and X-LG models to get this shirt to work for me with no success. However, it may work for you. I'm quite the exothermic type, and I always prefer these shirts to baggy t-shirts, button-down shirts, sweaters, and the like. I always wear thermals because unless I'm below 15Β°F anything heavier just gets too hot for me. I also wear these shirts everywhere - to work, to bed, around the house, on hikes, on the street. to restaurants, everywhere, so I can't eat too short. I'm in very good shape, but I hate walking into something that fits like a second skin. I'm just uncomfortable. I wanted something like what I currently have, a light weight, slim fitting synthetic shirt, well tailored with no or minimal logos visible. Nothing baggy. Nothing tight. They seemed a perfect match - UA is a good brand, they don't have any logos at all and even though they're compression shirts I figured I'd just buy one size. It turns out it doesn't work. These shirts are designed to be used as compression shirts, which means they only really work (move with the body and dissipate heat) when they compress the skin. The material is actually quite thick before it's stretched. Going down a size meant the shirt just didn't fit well, had extra material all over it and was still too hot as air couldn't circulate properly through the material now. Apart from this problem, however, the material is quite skin-friendly and appears to be of high quality. Fit: I'm a 5'7" male with an athletic build of 185 and a BMI < 10%. but in no way"swollen". I tried small, medium, large and extra large. The S was too tight - it was harder to take off than it was to put on, and it wasn't exactly a picnic to put on. The M was pretty good, but since I didn't want anything form-fitting, I tried the L and XL. L had the overall look I wanted, while XL, while surprisingly tight, had way too much extra material. But even L it was too hot for daily activities, let alone running or working outdoors. All M, L and XL were about 20% heavier than my current shirts (black Reebocks I would buy again but this model is set). So if you want compression and something tight I would recommend someone my size M, or if you have more muscle mass maybe LG. You don't need compression, try another shirt. EDIT: It's worth noting that the shirts loosen considerably after a few washes. Enough that the XL is now a bit bulky at the waist for me (at least for a compression shirt). So the L is probably the best option, if it's broken it should fit just fine.
