I bought two sets of 8 candles and all 16 came with cracked wax. I contacted the seller who promptly replaced them and each of the replacement parts was in good condition. The flames on it are beautiful, and I even fooled myself once by putting them out, thinking I'd left a lit candle! The main reason I bought them was to decorate windows for Christmas decorations. They look fine indoors for this type of use, but even on the brightest settings, they're still a bit dim for outdoor viewing. They work for this purpose, but aren't as flashy as the variety of plug-ins. I also have some candlesticks on my robe and they look very realistic from just a few feet away. These candles fit in two different candle holders that I have, although I felt I had to use a bit of putty to keep them from wobbling. Can't tell if they will last more than a few seasons or not - I hope they will, quality is good but not excellent (although I would put 4.5-5 by looks). As for the timer, I use the 8 o'clock setting and so far each candle has turned on and off at the correct time. I have a feeling I'll keep a few of these for the whole year and save the rest for next Christmas.
